Call for sectarian harmony

Police officials directed to ensure elaborate security arrangements during the month of mourning

RAWALPINDI: All religious scholars should work to create harmony among different schools of thought and avoid provocative speech and actions which may hurt the sentiments of others, said Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar on Monday.

Chairing a meeting with ulema, mushaikh and religious scholars of different sects to promote religious harmony in Muharramul Harram, he directed the police officials to make elaborate security arrangements for peaceful passage of the mourning month.

He asserted on foolproof security arrangements for the Majalis and Muharram mourning processions. Commissioner asked town municipal authorities, Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) District Health Authority, Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence to deliver their responsibilities.

He said civic authorities would ensure arrangements of maintaining security, peace, cleanliness, availability of lights, drinking water, scanning cameras, walk through gates on the routes of the Muharram processions and places of majalis. Among others, Regional Police Officer RPO Muhammad Ihsan Tufail, Parliamentary Secretary Ministry Of Narocotics Control Sheikh Rashid Shafique and others were present on the occasion.
