Nanbais Demands: Strike continues for second day

ABBOTTABAD: Nanbais in Abbottabad continued their strike for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, demanding that they be allowed to sell a roti at Rs6, instead of Rs5. The district administration, in a bid to pressurise the protesting nanbais, issued the arrest warrants for Nanbais Association President Akram Qureshi. However, he was not arrested till the filing of this report. Qureshi said the prices of daily use items have increased considerably, and the government had announced a rise in price of Sui gas, due to which they were facing financial difficulties. “The poor nanbais are fined and jailed without taking into account the problems they are facing due to inflation and low income,” he explained, adding that the strike would continue until their demands are not met. In some areas, however, the nanbais secretly conducted their business, ignoring their union presidents’ call for strike.
