LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority unearthed two fat rendering units extracting oil from animal waste on Thursday. The raids were conducted on Band Road, under the supervision of PFA Director General Muhammad Usman. The authority confiscated more than 6,000 litres of oil during the raids. The director-general said that the oil was being produced after heating animal fat and waste collected on Eidul Azha. He said that the rancid oil was being supplied to local hotels and was being sold in the market after being mixed with used oil. The DG maintained that using such oil in preparing food can lead to stomach problems and fatal diseases.
