Rescue 1122 responds to 871 RTCs

The Punjab Emergency Service responded to the Road Traffic Crashes in all 36 districts during the last 24 hours

LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 871 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in all 36 districts of the province during the last 24 hours. In these RTCs, 9 people died, whereas 997 were injured. Around 596 people were critically injured who were shifted to different hospitals. A total of 401 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams, thus reducing the burden of hospitals. According to details, the majority of accidents involved motorcycles, therefore effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline is essential to reduce the increasing number of RTCs. Further analysis showed that 408 drivers, 21 underage drivers, 126 pedestrians and 472 passengers were among the victims of these RTCs. Statistics show that 213 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 202 persons, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list, followed by Faisalabad with 85 RTCs and 98 victims and Multan at third with 57 RTCs and 62 victims. Details further revealed that 1,006 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 798 men and 208 women, while age group of the victims shows that 189 were under 18 years of age, 570 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 247 victims were reported to be above 40 years of age.
