Interior ministry plays a lead role in CPEC security

QUETTA: Federal Minister for Interior Ijaz Ahmed Shah said that the security of economic development is vital to strengthening cooperation with China.

He shared these views during a meeting held to discuss security matters pertaining to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) with a Chinese delegation comprising 12 members headed by Ambassador of China to Pakistan Yao Jing.

Interior ministry is playing a lead role in CPEC security and has established multiple operational and working mechanisms to achieve the desired objectives.

The Chinese ambassador put emphasis on increased use of technology in operational matters to ensure efficiency and smooth functioning of projects.

Besides, an expert group in technology has offered assistance on security management of CPEC.

The delegation shared their ideas and future prospects with the interior minister which he welcomed. Representatives of both countries agreed on mutual cooperation to ensure success of CPEC.

In the meeting the security matters pertaining to Gwadar port and surrounding areas were also discussed and possible measures were proposed.

The minister promised to ensure effective execution of policies decided for protection and successful completion of CPEC. “I look forward to stronger relations between the two countries,” said Shah.
