Pakistan, Russia reaffirm commitment to enhance military ties

Second session of Russia-Pakistan Joint Military Consultative Committee held in Moscow

ISLAMABAD: The second session of the Russia-Pakistan Joint Military Consultative Committee (JMCC) was held in Moscow on Tuesday, during which both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction on the convergence of views on major international issues.

The JMCC is the highest platform of defence collaboration between Pakistan and Russia. Defence Secretary Defence Lt General (retd) Ikramul Haq led the Pakistani delegation, while the Russian side was led by Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander V Fomin.

Russia, Pakistan military to hold joint drills

As per a statement issued by the defence ministry, the two delegation leaders met before the plenary session to discuss issues of mutual interest.

In the JMCC session, a detailed review on regional security was carried out and the two countries presented their respective views.

The two sides held discussions on areas of mutual cooperation including military training, joint exercises, intelligence cooperation and issues relating to defence industrial cooperation.

As the session concluded, both sides agreed to ensure effective follow-up and implementation of the decisions.

They also decided that the third JMCC session will be held in Pakistan in 2020 and expressed the hope that the forum would continue to play a vital role in enhancing defence cooperation.
