PHA distributes free plants among citizens

Initiative is part of ‘one man, two plants’ campaign launched in various parks and green belts of Lahore

LAHORE: The Parks and Horticulture Authority distributed free plants among citizens in several parts of the city under the Clean and Green Monsoon Plantation Campaign on Sunday.

PHA launched the drive by planting saplings at the Moon Market Park Main Boulevard Gulshan Ravi on Sunday. Walled City of Lahore Authority Director General Kamran Lashari will be the chief guest.

Various plants of fruit and flowers are being planted during the plantation campaign. Around 21,000 saplings will be planted in various parks and green belts of Lahore.

Forest dept sets multiple targets for plantation

Similarly in Multan Provincial Minister for Energy Dr Akhtar Malik inaugurated "One man, Two plants" campaign to promote greenery and trees on Sunday.

The tree plantation ceremony held at Civil Line College. In Multan division, 460,000 saplings would be planted by October 31. Talking to the participants, Malik said that citizens should take interest in the maximum plantation. He said the incumbent government gives tree plantation a top priority. He said that they would plant 2,000 saplings along the bank of Naubahar canal on Sunday. He lamented that the previous governments did not focus on the plantation. Everybody will have to play a role in the provision of a neat and clean atmosphere to the coming generation.

Parliamentary Secretary for Information Nadeem Qureshi observed that every citizen should plant at least two trees. He also stressed the need for looking after plants so that these should be nurtured properly.

Multan Commissioner Iftikhar Sahu said that they fixed a target of 200,000 plants in Multan. He said that a proper audit of the plantation campaign and plant care, would also be made and action would be taken against the departments concerned, who failed to protect plants.

Deputy Commissioner Aamir Khattak said that they distributed 78,000 plants, free-of- cost, among citizens in the city. Citizens are availing plants, free-of-cost from eight nurseries, he added. MPA Saleem Labar said that "One Man, Two Plants" was not a campaign but an objective.

On this occasion, MPA Sabeen Gul, Chairman PHA Ejaz Janjoa, Chairman MDA Abdul Jabbar, hundreds of students and officials from different departments were also present. With additional input from APP
