Two elderly civilians martyred in ‘unprovoked’ Indian shelling along LoC

ISPR says two Indian soldiers also reportedly killed and many injured in retaliation

At least two senior citizens were martyred when Indian troops targeted civil population with mortars and Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) in Hot Spring Sector along the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday, the military said.

“Two elderly innocent civilians Lal Muhamamd s/o of Muhamamd Din, 75, and 61-year-old Hassan Din s/o Lal Din, both residents of Nagrai village embraced shahdat (martyrdom),” said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Reportedly, two Indian army soldiers were also killed and many injured after Pakistan Army engaged posts from where the fire was directed, it added.

The incident comes days after four Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom in unprovoked Indian fire along the LoC, which was retaliated effectively resulting in the killing of five Indian troops, according to the military’s media wing.

India reimposes movement curbs as protests swell in Srinagar

Tensions have heightened between Pakistan and India following the abrogation of Occupied Kashmir’s special status in the first week of August.

New Delhi ended the autonomous status of the Muslim-majority territory on August 5, stepping up movement restrictions and cutting off phone and internet access to head off civil unrest, and igniting calls from Pakistan for the international community to intervene.

Earlier in the day, Indian authorities reimposed restrictions on movement in major parts of Indian Occupied Kashmir’s (IOK) biggest city, Srinagar after violent overnight clashes between residents and police in which dozens were injured.

In the past 24 hours, there has been a series of protests against New Delhi’s illegal IOK move. This followed an easing in curbs on movement on Saturday morning.
