Faisalabad man held for ‘torturing’ 10-year-old maid in Murree

Victim says couple would slap, kick her; case registered against Umair Tanveer

RAWALPINDI: Police arrested a man for allegedly torturing a 10-year-old child maid in Murree on Sunday.

The girl was hired by Umair Tanveer and his wife Zainab to work at their home in Faisalabad 10 months ago.

*M, the victim,  belongs to Mian Channu of Khanewal.

Tanveer's family had gone to Murree on vacation for seven days with the maid also being taken along with them.

According to the complaint, she was tortured at a flat in Murree with the incident reported to authorities.

District officer of Rawalpindi's Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Asadullah Khan reached the police station along with a team comprising of child protection officer Nasir Abbas and staff nurse Tahira Zahoor to record the minor girl's statement.

The victim claimed that the couple would not only slap and kick her  but also admonish her over trivial things.

A case was registered at Chowki Bazar Police Station in Murree under section 328A of The Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children Act 2004.

Violence against domestic staff is pervasive around the country with several cases catching the media and public eye.
