Ewan McGregor to return as 'Star Wars' character Obi-Wan Kenobi

The idea of the popular Jedi master returning is not so much in a galaxy far, far away

Maybe actor Ewan McGregor's return to blockbuster series Star Wars is in the stars after all and the idea is not so much in a galaxy far, far away.

The star is reportedly in talks to to reprise his role as the renowned Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi for a Disney Plus series, Variety confirmed.

However, details are scant. But the outlet verified the idea for the big-budget series grew out of plans for a Kenobi-focused film. The push for the stand-alone flick halted after the relatively unsuccessful release of Solo: A Starwars Story in 2018, which was a spin-off to the original Skywalker saga which McGregor's character is known for.

The 48-year old Scottish star portrayed the younger version of the Star Wars hero in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. He also had a voice cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star-studded 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' dominates box-office on opening weekend

The untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi show is set to mark the third Star Wars series for the new Disney Plus streaming platform. The Mandalorian, whose story is set following the events of the Return of the Jedi, is the first of them and is set to premiere in autumn.

We hope to see Obi-Wan fire up his famous blue lightsaber once more!
