LAHORE: Police have registered a case of vandalism and interference in government affairs against 150 workers of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), including party leader Uzma Bukhari.

The case was filed at the Islampura police station on Saturday, a day after clashes between PML-N workers and police during party vice president Maryam Nawaz's court appearance in Lahore.

PML-N lawmakers condemn Maryam’s arrest

Eight people, including Bukhari, have been named in the First Information Report.

Police have accused the PML-N supporters of physically assaulting on-duty cops, hurling stones at them, and causing damage to state property.

On Friday, PML-N leaders and workers reached the accountability court in Lahore for a show of solidarity with Maryam.

Maryam remanded in NAB custody till Aug 21

Police were ordered to stop the party's workers from reaching the court premises which led to exchanges of harsh words and, eventually, clashes.

Incidents of police high-handedness were widely reported, as were injuries to police personnel.

In June, a case was filed against PML-N workers after constables of the Lahore Police were injured scuffles during protests against Punjab Opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz’s arrest.

Prior to that, in May, police registered an FIR against 1,400 PML-N workers and leaders for holding a solidarity rally for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s return to Kot Lakhpat jail.
