"The use of plastic bags is disastrous for the environment. We request citizens to support the campaign and help the Sindh government save the environment," said Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a video message shared on social media. He added that a law against plastic bags was already present in the province, which would be implemented in letter and spirit.
Plastic bags banned at all airports across the country
Speaking to media personnel, the Sindh government's spokesperson, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who is also adviser to the CM on law, environment and coal development, said that the provincial government will distribute cloth bags in different areas of the city.
The adviser asked citizens to cooperate with the Sindh Government in its campaign, besides calling on factories and shops selling plastic bags to cooperate with the government.
He said that violators would be dealt with according to the law after October 1 and that action will be taken against sellers, manufacturers and users of plastic bags.
