Police devise Eidul Azha, Independence Day plan

Around 61,491 cops will be deployed in sensitive areas across Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab police have devised a comprehensive security plan for Eidul Azha and Independence Day to deal with any untoward incident.

On the directions of Punjab IGP Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan, leaves of all policemen and officers have been cancelled and all the training centres will remain open during the four public holidays. Moreover, 61,491 officers and personnel would be deployed at sensitive places, trade centers, mosques, madrassas and public buildings.

All CCPOs, RPOs, DPOs, DIG Operations Lahore and other police officers have been issued orders to maintain law and order situation and provide security to citizens.

Around 15 districts have also been declared sensitive and they include Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Gujarat, Pakpattan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Vehari and Jhang.

According to the security plan, 279 gazetted officers, 779 inspectors, 2,559 sub-inspectors, 4,285 ASIs, 3,298 head constable, 36,567 constables, 13,724 volunteer will be on duty across the province. Khan directed officers to not only stay vigilant on both the occasion but also be in constant contact with the staff in their areas.

In Faisalabad, traffic police formed special squads to control juvenile driving, wheelie, driving in tricks and triple ridding on motorcycles during Eid holidays and August 14. CTO Asif Cheema said that cases will be registered and motorcycles will be impounded of violators by traffic staff. No one would be allowed to take the law into hands, he said, adding that all DSPs traffic would monitor traffic squads regularly.

In Bahawalpur, foolproof security arrangements have been completed for both the events. Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Imran Mehmood said that Eid prayers will be organised at 1,220 mosques in Bahawalpur. Around 3,612 police officials, 640 volunteers and 2,412 special police officials will be deployed.
