ISLAMABAD  : A meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's contact group on Kashmir will be held today on the recent move by India to revoke the occupied valley's special status, said Foreign Office Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal.

In a tweet, Faisal said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be representing Pakistan in the OIC meeting.

Earlier this week, Qureshi had urged the OIC to take notice of India's inhumane treatment of the citizens of IoK.

On Monday, the foreign minister strongly condemned the Indian government’s decision to revoke Article 370 and scrap the special status for disputed Kashmir through a presidential decree.

India revoked the special status of occupied Kashmir and rushed through a presidential decree in a bid to fully integrate its only Muslim-majority region with the rest of the country, hours after imposing a major security clampdown in the region.

Home Minister Amit Shah told parliament that the president had signed a decree abolishing Article 370 of the constitution giving special autonomy to the Muslim-majority Himalayan region.

Occupied Kashmir and Ladakh will now be Union Territory with a legislature, said Indian media.

“The entire constitution will be applicable to Jammu and Kashmir state,” Shah said, ending the occupied territory’s rights to make its own laws.
