LAHORE: Lahore museum should generate its own resources instead of depending on government funds, said Punjab Information and Culture Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal.

He expressed these views while visiting Lahore Museum on Tuesday. Lahore Museum Director Nasir Jamal Hotiyana gave a detailed briefing to the minister about the history, infrastructure and the business model of the museum.

During the visit, the minister expressed dissatisfaction over the performance and the business model of the museum. He maintained that a treasure trove of antique items is available at the museum. “However, its failure to generate its own resources is regrettable,” he said.

The minister directed that a sustainable business and marketing plan be devised by the museum. He also ordered to make the displays more attractive and eye-catching.

“The marketing plan should be devised by researching the best models adopted in different countries,” he said.

“Instead of hiding away precious antiques, such treasures should be projected through the use of information and communication technology tools,” he said.
