LONDON:

Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan believes a One-Day International (ODI) series win against England is within grasp after a six-wicket victory at Lord’s put the tourists 2-1 up.

Dilshan was hoping to continue the good show in the upcoming matches.

“We’re playing good cricket, if we play like this we can keep winning,” said Dilshan.

Dinesh Chandimal’s 105 saw Sri Lanka capitalise on disciplined bowling after they held England to a sub-standard 246. So determined was Angelo Mathews to make sure Chandimal reached three figures that he played out a maiden in the 47th over to the despair of his captain.

“That disappointed me but they’re youngsters,” said Dilshan. “Getting a hundred at Lord’s is special. Chandimal played well for it”

England captain Alastair Cook, who made 119, was taken aback by the way Mathews refused easy runs.

“I’ve never seen that before,” said Cook. “The cricketing gods may look at that in disgust.”

Cook’s effort was supported by Kevin Pietersen, who made 41 but their effort was not enough to rack up a total that could challenge the visitors.
