RAWALPINDI: Months after it emerged that Chinese men were marrying Pakistani women in an alleged human trafficking scam, the Rawalpindi police said on Sunday that it had arrested two Chinese nationals for allegedly harassing a girl.

The victim claimed that the suspects were allegedly trying to force her into marrying one of them.

ST* told the Saddar police and told she lived in the Dhok Afshan Colony and gave private tuitions to students on Chakri Road. Her sister, BT*, works as a translator with Chinese nationals in an office in Sector E-11 in neighbouring Islamabad.

She claimed that the suspects Shu-Kwa and Hu-Ous, used to call her regularly wherein they kept urging her to marry one of them.

One day, they asked her to meet them on Chakri Road. ST claimed that they asked her to come alone.

Fearing for her safety, ST said that she went to the meeting accompanied by two of her male friends, Kashif and Shariq. Soon a car arrived and the two suspects disembarked.

Both suspects allegedly started abusing the victim and then walked towards her. At this point, ST’s two friends intervened and escorted her away from the area. As pedestrians gathered to see the commotion, the suspects fled.

ST urged the police to register a case against the suspects as they abused her and attempted to assault her in broad daylight.

The police registered a first information report (FIR) and arrested the two suspects.

When asked about the case, Saddar police SHO Inspector Ishtiaq Cheema confirmed that they had arrested the two Chinese nationals and that both suspects had been presented before a court which had sent them on judicial remand to the Adiyala jail.

More suspects arrested

The Rawalpindi police on Sunday claimed to have arrested four more suspects in the Westridge police station attack case.

City Police Officer Faisal Rana summoned Westridge police SHO to his camp office along with a report of cases registered against the suspects on Sunday.

The CPO was told that four suspects including Faizan Butt, Abdul Rehman Butt, Saeed Butt, and Osama Butt have been arrested.

Rana stated that the suspects have challenged the writ of the state by creating a ruckus at a police station.

He said that the offence committed by the suspects was one worst of offences and that the suspects will be punished no matter how powerful they were.

“Law is the most powerful entity,” he asserted.

The CPO added that it should be investigated who had incited the perpetrators to break into the police station with such nefarious motives.

For this purpose, he directed the Potohar SP to launch an inquiry and warned that any negligence on part of the police’s part would be dealt with strictly.

He further instructed to arrest the remaining suspects within 24 hours.

Moreover, the DIG said that it should be ensured that perpetrators are caught during the investigation.

He added that suspects should be given exemplary punishment so that nobody ever would think of committing such an offence in the future.

He directed related authorities to update him on the case daily.
