“Folk music, songs and dances have evolved over a period of centuries and represent the values and tradition of the people,” said Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Saqib Zafar.
He was speaking at a cultural music night in Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC). Renowned folk singers enthralled the people of the twin cities through the night. Besides Commissioner Zafar, MPA Momina Waheed, renowned writer Naheed Manzoor and RAC Director Waqar Ahmed were prominent among the guests.
Zafar said there was a strong need to preserve and nurture indigenous culture while being instep with modern times.
He lauded RAC for arranging cultural programmes that keep the local traditions alive. MPA Momina Waheed said Pakistan is a multi-cultural and multi ethnic society presenting unity in diversity.
