KARACHI: Two persons drowned while bathing in the sea at Sunehra Beach near Manjar Goth, in the jurisdiction of Mauripur police station. Mauripur SHO Chaudhry Zahid said that a search operation for the victims is underway but they haven’t been found yet.

The search is being carried out by divers, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) lifeguards and Edhi lifeguards.

Besides, two ships and a C-King helicopter of Pakistan Navy are also being employed in the search operation.

According to the incharge of the KMC response centre, Mairaj, the victims were identified as Kamran, 14, and Saleem, 24. He said that both were residents of Pak Colony, who came to the beach on a picnic along with other members of their family.

Mairaj believes that the family comprised 50 individuals. He revealed that of the two drowned, Kamran had lost his balance when he was hit by strong tides while bathing in the sea, and Saleem drowned while attempting to save him.

He complained that the emergency response centre hadn’t received fuel for speedboats for the past five months, which posed difficulties in the way of the search operation.
