A member of the Dalit (former Untouchable) community reported that he was on the road with his wife when they were intercepted by three men in a car. The attackers sprayed chili power in his eyes, smashed his bike and forcefully drove off with his wife.
He then called the local police and informed them about the kidnapping. Instead of looking into the matter, the officers accused him of misconduct and took him to the station for interrogation.
During questioning, the police officials beat the husband and a medical examination report showed injuries on his back and legs.
Five hours after the kidnapping, the man’s wife arrived at the police station and reported that the men had dumped her on the road. It was then that the husband was released.
The superintendent at the local police station released a statement sayign a senior member of staff and two constables had been suspended.
