KARACHI: The Sindh High Court issued notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday over the bail plea filed by the former provincial information minister Sharjeel Memon's co-accused Sarang Latif and forwarded the plea to the chief justice.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Iqbal Kalhoro and Justice Shamsuddin Abbasi heard the bail plea in which the counsel for the accused, advocate Shaukat, Hayat argued that Sarang has been imprisoned for the past 20 months and given that the bail plea filed by the primary accused, Memon, has been accepted, his client too deserves to be released on bail.

Justice Kalhoro remarked that Hayat should reach out to the same bench which accepted Memon's bail plea. Hayat maintained that the same bench is not available due to court vacations.

The court said that they would issue notice to NAB and forward the plea to the chief justice so that it can be submitted before the relevant bench. The court issued notice to NAB and sought the reply on July 26.

According to NAB, Latif is accused of issuing the advertisements of Rs5.76 billion at higher rates in connivance with Sharjeel Memon.
