SUKKUR:

Two small children whose parents died in last year’s floods in Gandakha, Balochistan turned up at the Thull press club on Friday.

They were handed over to Edhi officials by the Thull police. The children had come in search of shelter. Waheed Ali Soomro, 10, and his sister, Saima, 8, reached the press club with the help of a truck driver.

Soomro said that after their parents died when their house collapsed, they had been forced to live with their uncle, Daim Din Soomro. Four months ago, their uncle had asked the children to leave his house and live elsewhere. They moved in with their aunt, Naseeba, who used to beat them. The children grew tired of this mistreatment and fled. They convinced a truck driver to give them a ride and he dropped them at the press club.

Thull SHO Qurban Khokhar told The Express Tribune that it was impossible for him to keep the children at the police station and they would reach the Edhi home in Karachi.
