RAWALPINDI: The Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has barred the excise and taxation department from recovering property tax from houses in the rural areas of Punjab, including Rawalpindi division. Earlier, the representatives of 19 Union Councils (UCs) of Rawalpindi district had expressed displeasure on the decision and announced to stage a sit-in outside the department’s office. The provincial law ministry would issue a notification in this regard this week. The action was taken after efforts by the Provincial Law Minister, Raja Basharat, MPAs Adnan Chaudhry and Amjad Mehmood. The ex- UC Chairman UC Rehmatabad, Taj Abbasi, had acquired a stay order from High Court Rawalpindi Bench.
