THATTA:
A operation to remove handmade dykes will be launched on July 1 (today) with help from the police and revenue officials in Thatta. This was decided at a meeting with Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo and district administration officials. “Some people have constructed dykes on the riverbeds so I have asked the local administration to remove these without any delay,” Palijo said. According to the culture minister, these individuals were initially going to receive a warning. “We are asking irrigation officials to remove the bunds by the deadline, which has been extended from June 30 to July 10. Otherwise a complaint will be filed with the Sindh chief minister, Qaim Ali Shah, or President Asif Ali Zardari,” she said.
