LAHORE: Child domestic abuse continues unabated in the city as another incident was reported on Saturday.

A minor girl, identified as Rukhsana, a resident of Toba Tek Singh, was recovered by police from Iqbal Town. The victim was working as a domestic helper at Anita’s house. Allegedly, the girl’s employer had tortured her.

The case came to light after the girl’s family met her after a year. A case has been registered against the accused. Police said that they are investigating the matter further.

This is not the first such incident to be reported in recent weeks. A few days ago, 10-year-old Kulsoom, a domestic helper subjected to torture, was recovered by police. Just last month, a minor was recovered by the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB). The victim, Hadia, worked at the home of Zarqa Shahid in Halloki. The employer would torture the helper so brutally that her screams would reverberate in the locality, making the neighbours restless.

Accidents

Meanwhile, senior photojournalist Hassan Jaffrey died in an accident on Saturday. The victim was travelling on his motorcycle when he was hit by a speeding car. As a result, he was thrown off his bike and fell into a canal.

Passers-by called rescue teams which launched an operation to recover the body. The victim’s body was found after an hours-long search operation, approximately two kilometres from the accident site. The journalist fraternity, his friends, family and relatives expressed their grief over the incident. Police say they are investigating the matter further.

In another incident, a 12-year-old girl died after a tree fell on her in Jinnah Garden Mall Road. The victim, identified as Hamna, a resident of Chauberji, had come to the park with her family. She was crossing the road when a tree fell on her. She sustained injuries and died.

Moreover, the case of a man, who had allegedly committed suicide after jumping from a roof in Harbancepura, has been solved. The victim’s wife was arrested for the murder.

Reportedly, Farhan was living with his wife Anum. A few days ago, he died after falling from the roof of his home. The victim’s wife claimed it was a suicide.

However, the victim’s family suspected foul play. After police investigations, it was revealed that he had been murdered. Police registered a case against Anum, her friend and the owner of the house the couple lived in.
