Agriculture is a major contributor to the national economy, which accounts for over 21% of GDP, said Punjab Agriculture Minister Malik Nauman Ahmad Langrial. Speaking at an event organised by the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT), he said about 80% of the country’s foreign exchange originated from agriculture and Punjab contributed over 60% to this amount. “Pakistan is the third largest producer of dates and citrus,” he said. “The country ranks fourth in the world’s mango production.” Pakistan was a preferred country due to its agricultural resources where lots of investment opportunities were emerging to support the sustainability of quality food production, Langrial stated. Speaking on the occasion, PBIT Chairman Sardar Tanvir Ilyas Khan said the expo would open new doors of opportunities for producers, exporters and companies indulging in agriculture business in Pakistan.
