Looks like the cast of Game of Thrones was as disappointed by the show’s end as its fans were.

The latest actor to speak out about it is Lena Headey, who essayed the character of Cersei Lannister for all eight seasons of the super hit HBO fantasy drama.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Lena discussed Cersei’s death and how she had expected more. After eight seasons of scheming, murder and revenge, expectations were high for what would become of the wicked queen of Westeros.

Cersei dying in the crumbling Red Keep was an unsatisfying ending for a character like hers. This was compounded by the lack of screen time given to Cersei in the last season of the show, as the queen spent most of it quietly sipping wine on her balcony.

About this, Lena said, “I had invested as a viewer and I have my favourite characters. And I’ve got a few of my own gripes. But I haven’t sat down with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss yet. And when I do, I will say I wanted a better death.”

The British beauty elaborated further saying, “Obviously you dream of your death … You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”

Cersei’s death was one of many missteps in the last few episodes of Game of Thrones and part of a larger issue of how the show treated its female characters. Since the series ended last month, there have been countless discussions about surrounding the character assassination of Daenerys Targaryen as well.

In the end, both Daenerys and Cersei deserved better.

Asked if she is still in touch with her fellow “Throners,” Lena revealed, “We’re all on a giant WhatsApp group which is a daily pile-on. It’s hilarious. You can tell who’s been drinking on that one.”
