ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday issued notices to the country's major political parties for scrutiny of foreign funding.

After the jurisdiction of the foreign and prohibited funding was extended, notices were issued to Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to appear before the ECP's scrutiny committee.

Disqualification petitions filed against two PTI lawmakers

All three political parties have been directed to appear on June 20 along with the petitioners. Notices have been issued to PML-N and PPP over Farrukh Habib's petition to PTI over Akbar Babar's petition.

The PTI had moved the Supreme Court requesting the top court to declare the PML-N and the PPP-P as foreign-funded parties for allegedly receiving funds from forbidden sources.

The case against PTI has been pending since 2014 on the application of Babar, a disgruntled member of the party.
