ATC summons cop in Naqeebullah case

Court may indict accused in hate speech case on July 13

KARACHI: A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) ordered the witness, Inspector Shakir to appear in the court with the case documents on the next hearing of Naqeebullah murder case.

The ATC was hearing the case at Karachi Central Jail on Thursday. Former SSP Malir Rao Anwar, DSP Qamar and others accused on bail appeared in the court. The jail authorities presented the arrested accused before the court. Investigation officer of the case, Dr Rizvan and witness, Inspector Shakir, also appeared before the court to record their statements.

As Inspector Shakir did not bring the entries of the case, the court ordered him to appear in the court with the case documents on next hearing and adjourned the hearing till July 4.

According to the police, the court has declared many accused as absconders who are still on the run. The absconders include Sub-inspector Amanullah Marwat, Shoaib Shooter and others.

Statement recorded

Another ATC recorded the statement of petitioner in the cases pertaining to hate speech against the senior leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM). Counsels for the accused will cross question over the statement on the next hearing.

The accused Dr Farooq Sattar, Khuwaja Izhar, Rauf Siddiqui and others appeared in the court. Petitioner, Javed recorded his statement in the court and identified Dr Farooq Sattar and Khuwaja Izhar as the accused. He stated that most of the people who are accused of listening to the hate speech and acting upon it are present in the court room. "I'm the president of Anjuman Tahafuz-e-Pakistan and I heard the hate speech at my house. I also recorded the speech," he said.

The court adjourned the hearing till July 6.

Hate speech case

Another anti-terrorism court hearing 26 cases pertaining to the facilitation in hate speech of Altaf Hussain, ordered the counsels for accused to ensure their presence on the next hearing. Indictment is expected in three cases on the next hearing.

Dr Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan, Khuwaja Izhar and others accused appeared before the court. The court remarked that the accused will be indicted in three cases on next hearing and adjourned the hearing till  July 13. Dr Farooq Sattar, Shahid Pasha, Hunaid Lakhani, Khuwaja Izhar and others accused are expected to be indicted on the next hearing while others accused have already been indicted in 21 cases.

Medical facilitation case

A special anti-terrorism court ordered the petitioner, Superintendent Rangers Inayatullah Durrani and judicial magistrate Central Khurram Amin Khan to appear on the next hearing of the case pertaining to the medical facilitation of terrorists in Dr Asim Hussain's hospital.

Dr Asim, Pak Sarzameen Party leader Anis Qaimkhani, Rauf Siddiqui, Waseem Akhter and others appeared in the court. The court issued notice to the magistrate who recorded the statement under section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure of the petitioner and witness of the case, Dr Yousuf Sattar. Court ordered the petitioner, Inayatullah Durrani and Khurram Amin Khan to appear on the next hearing and adjourned the hearing till July 20.

The counsels for accused opposed the request for summoning the magistrate. The court has summoned the judicial magistrate while accepting the request of Ranger's counsel Sajid Mehboob Sheikh. Dr Asim, Anis Qaimkhani, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhter, Qadir Patel, Usman Muazzam and Rauf Siddiqui have been nominated as accused in the case.

Sentenced

Another ATC sentenced the activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London, Kashif to 14 years of imprisonment in the case pertaining to the possession of explosive material.

The ATC announced the verdict of the case at Karachi Central Jail. According to the government lawyer, Iqbal Mayo Rajput, explosive material was found in the accused's possession. The case against him was registered at Pakistan Bazaar Police Station.
