LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to auction unused and unnecessary items. Details have been sought from the government institutions heads who have been given the green signal. The move is meant to enable the departments to pay their internal expenses.

Sources said that the government has directed the heads of departments to submit details about unused vehicles, machinery and furniture and to take immediate steps to auction the same.

The heads have been directed to auction the items according to rules and regulations.

Further, the heads of government departments have been told to submit a report in this regard to the CM office by June 15. Notices were issued to senior members of the board of revenue, the Planning and Development Board Chairman, the Punjab additional chief secretary as well as the additional chief secretary, the inspector general of police, provincial management secretaries, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.

Sources said that departments have to meet their own expenses in order to cut down on non-development expenses in the budget for the new fiscal year. The main objective is to meet the internal expenses so that the government’s austerity policy can be taken forward.
