JHELUM: Illegally built speed breakers in the Kala Gujran area of Jhelum have added to the miseries of residents who claim that these speed bumps have become a source of accidents for children as well as for the elderly.

Locals claim that due to the absence of sufficient lighting along the roads where these speed breakers have been built make them undetectable for motorists at night. Moreover, owing to their poor construction, dozens of motorists are injured every day.

Apart from this, a number of people have built wide stairs outside their houses which encroach on the road and add to the difficulties of motorists.

Citizens say that the illegally constructed speed bumps are not painted with reflective paint which would increase their visibility, especially at night. As a result, unsuspecting motorists are thrown off balance by the sudden bumps in the dark.

They added that the speed bumps were constructed without keeping elevation and other necessary mechanics into consideration.

Apart from injuring motorists, the speed breakers also damaged their vehicles.
