KARACHI: Unidentified robbers stole jewellery worth millions from a shop in Hyderi Centre Market in North Nazimabad.

The robbers broke the locks and shutter of a shoe store abutting the jewellery shop, Ahsan Jewellers, and entered the shoe shop. They then broke the wall of the jewellery shop, cut off the wires of CCTV cameras and stole jewellery worth millions of rupees.

According to Central district SSP Arif Aslam Rao, the theft took place during Eid days.

The incident was first reported by the shoe store owner who opened his shop on Saturday, after three days of Eid. He immediately informed the jewellery shop owner, Muhammad Arif, of the theft, who promptly reached his shop.

According to SSP Rao, the jewellery shop owner has yet to determine the exact cost of stolen jewellery.

However, the president of the market union has informed that the overall worth of the jewellery present inside the shop exceeded Rs30 million.  The police have acquired fingerprints of the accused from the shop and have interrogated four people including the security guard of the market. However, no evidence of the involvement of market's staff in the theft has been found so far.
