Imam arrested in DI Khan for allegedly abusing boys; couple killed in Abbottabad

SWABI/ ABBOTTABAD/ DI KHAN: At least three sisters reportedly died when a tourist boat they were riding capsized in Swabi’s Kundal Dam.

According to police, as many as 38 passengers were on board the boat when it was going around a pre-determined route in the dam. But the boat capsized.

While 35 passengers were rescued a day earlier. The police had launched a search operation to find the missing three girls last night and the bodies were fished out on Friday.

Last month, at least six people drowned after a ferry overturned in Indus River near Sindh's Matiari district.

K-P Local Government Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai expressed concern and sorrow over the capsizing of the boat in Swabi. He also took notice of the forest fire in Kalo Khan area.

Tarakai directed to take all safety precautions for boats at the tourist spot of Kandal while rescue workers and lifeguards are deployed.

He said that apart from providing all facilities to tourists, their lives should also be safeguarded and that immediate measures should be taken in this regards.

The minister directed the Rescue 1122 to use all facilities to put out the forest fire in Karamar forests.

Imam arrested

The Dera Ismail Khan police have arrested a man from the Panyal area of the district, who was accused of sexually exploiting minors during Eidul Fitr at his premises.

Police have registered a first information report (FIR) stating that MY*, the imam of a local mosque, had allegedly sexually assaulted and exploited several minors in a house adjacent to the mosque.

Locals allegedly caught the imam red-handed in the premises and handed him over to Panyal police for further action.

Police have arrested the suspect.

Couple killed

A couple was shot dead by their relative over a family issue in the Chan Kot village within the remits of Lora police station on the first day of Eidul Fitr.

Umar Khattab and his wife Razeefa Bibi were allegedly killed by Khalid Gulfraz. Later, the Lora police arrested Gulfraz.
