LAHORE: No one will be spared from accountability under the pretext of the democracy being threatened, said Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar. He expressed these views while hosting a dinner for medical and law professionals on Wednesday.

Representatives from the Insaaf Lawyer’s Forum and doctor organisations attended the dinner. Speaking at the gathering, the governor said that accountability should not be regarded as a conspiracy. It will strengthen democracy and the parliament, he said.

“The opposition demands that it should not be questioned about the harm it has brought to the country. Those who are criticising the armed forces and other security institutions cannot be the country’s well-wishers,” he said.

He continued that every citizen in Pakistan should act according to the rules and regulations outlined in the Constitution. “The federal cabinet has been tasked with the duty of legislating the death sentence as a punishment for child molesters. This will be a landmark decision for protecting the country’s children,” he said.

In addition, the governor praised doctors for practicing their noble profession and saving the lives of the people. “No society can progress without acknowledging and appreciating the services rendered by medical professionals,” he stated.

Further, he added that lawyers are an integral part of the judicial system and an important section of civil society. He explained that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is taking revolutionary steps to mend the image of Pakistan in the comity of nations and to provide people with their due rights.

“For the first time, an honest government is holding the reins and it will ensure transparency along with good governance,” he said. “The government is taking steps to provide the maximum relief to each section of society.”

Sarwar claimed accountability is being ensured for the very first time under the present government. He said that was the reason feathers had been ruffled among the opposition “Whenever they are asked to account for their corruption, they resort to misguiding others claiming that democracy is being threatened,” he claimed.

“Democracy is not being threatened. The politics of corrupt politicians are being threatened,” he said.
