Chinese research center to be named after Dr Attaur Rahman

Dr Attaur Rahman has previously served as HEC chairman, federal minister for science and technology

The leading university of Chinese Medicine in Changsha, Hunan province has decided to name its new research center after Pakistan’s famous scientist and academician Professor Dr Attaur Rahman, said a statement.

Hunan University of Chinese Medicine will hold a grand opening ceremony of its new center named Academician Professor Attaur Rahman One Belt One Road TCM Research Center on the occasion of the 5th Annual Bio-TCM International Conference being held from 23rd to 25th October, 2019.

The senior official of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (UoK) said on Monday that Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has been invited as the guest of honour at the conference.

Universiti Teknology Mara in Malaysia has already established a research center in the name of Dr Attaur Rahman, which is called Attaur Rahman Institute of Natural Product Discovery.

Rahman is currently serving as Chairman of Prime Minister’s Task Force on Science and Technology. He has also served the federal minister for science and technology and chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC),

He obtained his PhD in organic chemistry from Cambridge University in 1968. He has 1,142 publications in several fields of organic chemistry.

He is also the editor-in-chief of eight European chemistry journals and is also the editor of the world's leading encyclopedic series of volumes on natural products. He has also been awarded various national and international awards in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of science and technology.
