Internet sensation Grumpy Cat dies age seven

Pictures of her perpetually unimpressed face have been a permanent feature of social media since 2012

Grumpy Cat, the viral internet sensation, has passed away  on Tuesday. According to a post on the official Facebook page, the celebrity cat was 7 year old.

Tardar Sauce, as Grumpy was known to her family, rose to fame in 20212 after her photograph was posted on Reddit.

Bryan Bundesen, the brother of her owner Tabatha Bundesen, posted a picture of Tardar Sauce pointing out her permanently grumpy expression and social media users couldn’t get enough of her.

Pictures of her perpetually unimpressed face have been a staple of social media ever since.

Owner Tabatha Bundesen, who says Grumpy Cat’s unique expression is a result of a form of dwarfism, took a leave of absence from her day job in 2013 to manage her cat’s growing celebrity status.

The Grumpy Cat Twitter account currently has 1.5 milion followers and Grumpy's Instagram has well over 2 million followers.

Despite her "grumpy" appearance and "Grumpy Cat” nickname Tardar Sauce was fairly good-natured. According to the Bundesens, "Ninety-nine percent of the time she is just a regular cat."
