The 2007 horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa is likely to get a sequel, if rumours are to be trusted. While the Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan-starrer was directed by Priyadarshan, the new film is said to be written and directed by Farhad Samji.

A Mumbai Mirror report quoted a source as saying, "Bhushan wanted to make a part two of Bhool Bhulaiyaa for a while now and has cracked an idea with Farhad Samji, who will be writing and directing the film."

The sequel is in the development stage and will feature a fresh cast. Once the final script is locked, the team will kick off casting and other pre-production formalities.

Few days ago, reports of T Series registering the title Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 surfaced. The original film was an official remake of the Tamil hit Chandramukhi, starring Rajinikanth.

The film revolves around a US-based couple Siddharth Chaturvedi (Shiney Ahuja) and Avni (Vidya Balan) who are on a holiday in India. The newly weds are warmly welcomed but when Siddharth insists on staying on in his ancestral mansion, it upsets his relatives, especially his uncle Badrinarayan Chaturvedi (Manoj Joshi), who openly voices his disapproval.

Despite warnings about the mansion being haunted, he shifts there. Soon, strange things begin to happen and Avni begins to act weird.  Siddharth is forced to call his psychiatrist friend Aditya (essayed by Akshay) for help. The film also featured Amisha Patel, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav in pivotal roles.

Director Farhad is presently working on his Akshay’s Housefull 4. His writing credits include the upcoming Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan remake of Govinda's Coolie No 1.
