QUETTA: The Balochistan Secondary Education Department has suspended 81 ghost teachers in Dera Bugti, and issued show cause notices to them seeking explanation within 15 days.

“The department has suspended the teachers for three months over absenteeism and sought explanations from them in 15 days,” department secretary Tayab Lehri said.

The secretary said that the education department was faced with an appalling situation where hundreds of ghost employees were drawing salaries without performing their duties to the detriment of students as well as the system of education in the province.

“No one will be allowed to deceive the system. No one will be allowed to draw salaries while sitting at home,” Lehri said. He said the action against the absentee teachers in Dera Bugti was part of the department’s policy to take strict remedial action in line with the directives of the chief minister.
