ISLAMABAD: As many as four officials of the apex civic body, who had been suspended on corruption charges, were restored late on Tuesday, though there were reports that the decision was taken without the approval of the acting chairman of the authority.

According to a notification issued by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) late on Tuesday, Land and Recovery Director Fareeduddin, and assistant directors Inayatullah, Akram and Ishaq were restored to their posts.

The men had been suspended after complaints were lodged against them on the Prime Minister’s Citizen Complaints Portal that they had allegedly demanded a bribe from a citizen for granting possession of his plot.

A senior CDA officer confirmed to The Express Tribune that CDA Member Estate Khushal Khan had restored the suspended officials through an order. He added that the officials had been investigated on corruption charges but nothing conclusive was proved.

However, reports have emerged of a rift between Khushal and CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed since the latter did not sign off on the move to restore the men.

Despite repeated attempts to contact Ahmed, he did not respond to requests for comment.
