PESHAWAR: Pakistan is facing an acute shortage of nurses, said Khyber Medical University Institute of Nursing Sciences (KMU-INS) Director Dr Dildar Muhammad.
“We need more nurses for the healthcare needs of the population,” he said International Nurses Day ceremony held at the institute in collaboration with International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
He pointed out that according to international standards Pakistan needs 1.3 million more nurses. However, there shall be no compromise on the quality of nursing education.
Dr Parveen Ali, from university of Sheffield stressed the importance of evidence based nursing practice.
Faridullah, deputy director nursing emphasised that nursing directorate is working on the service structure of nurses as well for the timely promotion of nurses to next grades.
The conference was sponsored by ICRC, Peshawar office which is working to improve nursing practice in merged tribal districts and K-P.
ICRC Health Programme Manager Dr Chuiyki Youshida, ICRC Specialist Nurse Charlotte Ifle, University of Sheffield Professor of Nursing Dr Parveen Ali University of Sheffield Faridullah, Health Department Deputy Director Nursing Sultania, K-P Nursing Examination Board Controller spoke on the occasion.
