Govt considering to impose taxes on commercial use of water

The IMC, CDA, ICT and environmental protection agencies are working to devise rules for extracting groundwater

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan on Tuesday told the Senate that a proposal was being considered by the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) to impose charges on the installation of tube wells and the extraction of water for commercial use in the federal capital.

Responding to a question during Question Hour, the minister shared that there are 35 car washes in the capital and a large quantity of water was used for this purpose.

Ali said that the IMC, CDA, ICT and environmental protection agency was working to devise certain rules and regulations for extracting groundwater.

In this regard, these services stations were being encouraged to install recycling plants to save 80% of water, he added.
