ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has given the additional charge of petroleum minister to Omar Ayub Khan.

Omar Ayub already holds the charge of Power Division. Earlier, Ghulam Sarwar Khan was heading the Petroleum Division but he was removed a few days ago after he apparently failed to perform according to expectations.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Monday to give the additional portfolio of Petroleum Division minister to Omar Ayub.

“In terms of Rule 3(4) of the Rules of Business, 1973, the prime minister has been pleased to allocate, with immediate effect, the additional portfolio of Petroleum Division to Omar Ayub Khan, Federal Minister for Power Division,” the Cabinet Division said in the notification.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran asked former finance minister Asad Umar to take over the portfolio of petroleum minister during the cabinet reshuffle. However, Umar declined the request.

Alternative power policy likely in 2 months

Afterwards, the premier appointed Task Force on Energy Chairman Nadeem Babar as Special Assistant on the Petroleum Division. Now, Ayub has been given the additional charge of petroleum minister.
