Pakistan on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives following a plane crash in Russia. Forty-one people on board an Aeroflot passenger plane were killed on Sunday after the aircraft caught fire as it made a bumpy emergency landing at a Moscow airport.

"We are saddened at the loss of so many precious lives and injuries to several others during an emergency landing by a Russian airliner yesterday", the Foreign Office said in a statement.

"The people and the Government of Pakistan convey their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."

Pakistan stands by the people of the Russian Federation in their hour of grief, it added.

Television footage showed the Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash bouncing along the tarmac at Sheremetyevo airport before the rear part of the plane suddenly burst into flames.
