RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi district took a giant step forward in the fight against polio after some 450 environmental samples collected from different parts of the city came back negative.

Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ali Randhawa, said that Rawalpindi had been declared a ‘high-risk’ area owing to the presence of the virus in Nullah Leh.

He added that recent results of polio showed that the virus was present in the tribal areas as well as Peshawar.  Two samples from Peshawar and one each from Bajaur and Khyber Agencies were found to be positive.

The DC had lauded the efforts of teams of polio drives and district administration.
