Special court no. 3 at the Karachi Central Jail announced the verdict, sentencing Quratulain to five years imprisonment and her brother, Junaid, to seven years imprisonment. The court acquitted another accused, Mudassir, due to lack of evidence.
According to the police, the convicts had demanded Rs200,000 as extortion from a citizen, Muhammad Taqi, and they were arrested at the time of collection of money.
ATC awards life imprisonment to three for murder
The court has declared two other accused in the case absconders. The case against the criminals was registered at Kharadar Police Station on July 31, 2015.
Meanwhile, an ATC sentenced a member of a Lyari-based gang, Shahid Ilyas, to 11 years imprisonment in cases pertaining to attempt of murder, police encounter and possession of illegal weapons.
According to the police, Ilyas was arrested on a tip-off. The convict opened fire when he saw the police and was arrested red-handed. The case is registered against the convict at Kalri Police Station in 2019.
