Judicial Magistrate Khalid Saeed Wattoo on Saturday declared PML-N MNA Malik Riaz a proclaimed offender for not appearing before the court to answer charges that he and his men harassed a bailiff and prevented him from doing his duty.
Petitioner Zubair Hussain had obtained a stay order from the court over a property located in Shahdara police jurisdiction that he alleged Riaz had illegally occupied with armed accomplices.
Hussain filed a contempt petition against Riaz, contending that local police were not helping him retrieve the property and so the court should appoint a bailiff for the purpose.
The court appointed a bailiff and issued a contempt notice to the MNA. The bailiff later reported that when he tried to implement the court orders, he was harassed and prevented from doing his job by Riaz and his henchmen.
The magistrate had then issued non-bailable warrants for the MNA and directed the police to arrest him and produce him before the court.
