Senate body approves programme for committee heads

Six different options were examined by ministry of parliamentary affairs to implement committee’s recommendations

ISLAMABAD:

Senate Special Committee has given approval for conducting workshops to augment the productivity and knowledge of chairmen of committees.

The meeting of special committee constituted by the upper house was held at the parliament house under the chairmanship of committee convener Senator Dilawar Khan to implement the recommendations

Six different options were examined by the ministry of parliamentary affairs to implement the committee’s recommendations.  Secretary for ministry of parliamentary affairs and officials of senate secretariat giving the reference of rules and regulations presented their stance to the committee.



Senator Dilawar Khan said that committees compile recommendations on important affairs which are directly linked with the public.

He maintained that implementing such recommendations was extremely important and added that the parliament is supreme and its authority will be ensured under all circumstances. The committee approved the terms of reference after reviewing them in detail.

The committee also examined in detail the matter of preparing standard operating procedures (SOPs) in relation to granting the senate committees the power of civil courts.

Senator Dilawar Khan and members of the committee stressed that there was a need to empower the committees because empowered committees can ensure implementation of recommendations and directives issued from by the parliament from time to time.

The committee said that this was an important issue and consultation will be held with the Ministry of Law, parliamentary affairs and other stakeholders.

Considering the requests of the public, the committee summoned a report from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Ministry of Law and other related institutions on the issue of equivalence for Bachelors in Eastern Medicine and Surgery in its next meeting.

Senators Khanzada Khan, Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Jamot, Chaudhry Tanveer Khan, Muhammad Akram, Moulvi Faiz, Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen, ministry of parliamentary affairs and National Health Service and others participated in the meeting.
