KARACHI: The Sindh government has proposed a first-of-its-kind master plan for the development of road networks across the province. Sindh Works and Services Department will work on the proposed project, Road Master Plan 2040, which will be completed with assistance from the Asian Development Bank.

The road networks all over the province will be surveyed for the first time under the plan. The road network plan for every district will be designed separately after a thorough survey, after which the construction, repair and development of the roads will be undertaken.

It has also been decided that once the master plan is executed, no developmental scheme for road networks in Sindh could be included in the budget under any political recommendations.

Modern machinery for the construction of roads under the master plan has already been brought in from Dubai and the work in the first phase of the project has started in Sukkur district.

Sindh govt to develop master plan for 15 districts of province

It is the first time under this project that all road networks will be documented after surveys conducted on all highways and link roads of Sindh. The data will be collected through latest technology equipment to determine the importance and value of roads. This data will help the department decide which road needs to be reconstructed and which ones can be repaired.

Works and Services Minister Nasir Hussain Shah informed that such a master plan will be implemented for the first time in Sindh amongst all provinces. The major objective of the project is to ensure transparency in the construction and maintenance of roads. No developmental schemes for roads will be carried out except on the basis of data provided through this project.

The work has already started from Sukkur district, after which one by one all other districts will be surveyed.
