ISLAMABAD: A subcommittee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) reviewed on Tuesday objections raised in the Civil Aviation Authority’s audit report.

The subcommittee’s meeting was presided over by its chairperson Hina Rabbani Khar.

CAA representatives told the participants of the meeting that a case pertaining to Moscow’s passenger agents’ Rs107 million was pending in the Sindh High Court while recovery was not possible from a Toronto-based company as it had gone bankrupt.

Khar told them that action for the recovery of dues should have been taken earlier.

The matter was later referred to the departmental accounts committee.

The CAA officials further told the subcommittee that in 2015, then Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) CEO Tarqi Kirmani had waived off Rs111 million using his authority. The PIA representatives told the committee that the PIA was authorised to write off around RS3.75 billion. However, they added, it had not even written off Rs1.5 billion.
