KARACHI: A case has been registered against four policemen after a two-year-old was fatally shot during an encounter between police and dacoits in Karachi on Tuesday, Express News reported.

The murder case was filed against four policemen involved in the incident on Tuesday night in Karachi, police said. According to the police, the cases were registered under Section 324 and 304.

Police are in the process of gathering CCTV footage of the incident site and all four policemen are in custody and currently under investigation. The weapon has also been sent for forensics.

“Police have a 9mm pistol and a shell found from the crime scene,” SHO Javed Abro told media.

Police state that it will soon be clear whether the bullet shell found at the scene of the crime came from the polices’ weapon or that of the dacoits.

The incident took place in the Sachal Area with the child’s parents also sustaining injuries while travelling in a rickshaw.

Police said the infant was killed in an exchange of fire between the law enforcement agency and robbers who were looting citizens.

The dacoits managed to flee the scene during the firing while the victim was hit by a bullet.

Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Muratza Wahab, while talking to media, said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will hold provincial police accountable for the incident. He lamented the fact that instead of providing justice to the victim’s family, police were instead threatening them.

“We have told them to change their ways,” Wahab added.
